GIRLS' SILVER JUBILEE May 2017
Our Annual Dinner takes place on Friday, 17th May. The evening will begin with Evensong at 6.30pm. Pre-dinner drinks will follow the service before the meal is served in the Chapter House.
This year's guest speaker is the York-based composer, Andrew Carter, who is celebrating his 80th birthday this year. He is an excellent after dinner speaker. A number of years ago he composed the Wakefield Service, which will be setting to be sung at Evensong. John Holt, one of our founder members and a lay clerk until last year, is also celebrating is 80th birthday. His setting of the Preces and Responses will be sung. S.S.Wesley's "Blessed be the God and Father" will be the anthem.
It should be a good evening! The closing date for booking places is Monday, 6th May.

Colin Fuller (OC) recently sent this photograph taken in 1946. His father, Charlie, had just been appointed the Cathedral Verger, having returned from serving in the army during the Second World War.
Provost Hopkins asked (probably ordered!) Charlie to check the work that the steeplejacks were carrying out on the spire. The photograph shows Charlie between the two steeplejacks climbing the ladder on the south side of the spire. Colin is looking up the spire from the parapet of the tower.
What a start to a long and distinguished career at the Cathedral!
